The Roommate You Didn’t Know You Needed

Nurturing plants in your bedroom can have numerous benefits for your health! Here are a few quick facts:

  • Reduced stress

    • Indoor gardening and working with plants reduce “physiological and psychological stress” (Stanborough).

  • They improve air quality

    • Studies show that plants filter out harmful compounds like formaldehyde and benzene from the air.

    • The microorganisms inside the soil also filter the air.

  • They improve your sense of wellbeing

  • They can improve mental and physical wellbeing

    • Indoor plants can increase you focus, decrease depressive and bad moods, and lessen anxiety

    • “‘When your mind and body are relaxed, it can improve your blood pressure, heart rate and cortisol levels’” (“Health benefits of indoor plants”).

In my experience:

I absolutely adore taking care of indoor plants and I find that nurturing them and watching them grow brings me so much happiness.

It brings an essence of the beautiful outdoors into my room and allows me to stay connected to the natural world.

The air in my room often feels fresh even though I have a cat and a dog and pretty bad ventilation, so I think I owe that all to these plants.

They also just turn out looking so pretty when they’re grown and it feels so amazing to watch them grow. I feel like a proud mom.
